Arsenal’s stellar start to the season has gotten even better with the news that one of their key players is closing in on a new deal.
Hector Bellerin, after some rapid improvement in recent months, has been incessantly linked with moves away from the Emirates, including a shock return to Barcelona.
Reports in the past few weeks had claimed talks over a new deal were stalling but in an interview with The Guardian, the player’s agent eased fans’ concerns.
“We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign.
“Hector is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress.”
The player himself told the London Evening Standard that he was happy to stay at the English giants and expressed no desire to return to the Camp Nou.
“If I wanted to play there I would have stayed there.
“I was very happy when Arsenal showed interest in me and I decided to come here. I’m not looking back, I’m just looking to help Arsenal.”
Arsenal boast one of the best defensive records in the league and the 21-year-old has unquestionably been central to their resolute backline. A majestic, goal-saving tackle against Spurs on Saturday showed the youngster has much more to his game than his famed pace.
I would have given Hector Bellerin a contract extension just for that last-ditch tackle on Son on Sunday.

If it's true about Bellerin extending his contract, it's fantastic news. He has everything in his locker to become the best RB in the world
