One of Arsene Wenger’s key players is set to be rested for this weekend as Arsenal prepare to face Southampton in the Premier League.
Alexis Sanchez is set to be assessed after serving international duty with Chile over the past two weeks.
In addition, Wenger wants to rest one of his prominent players ahead of a crucial Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Sanchez featured in both of Chile’s matches, and is unlikely to start against the Saints, with new signing Lucas Perez set to make his bow for the Gunners after arriving in a £17.1 million deal from Deportivo la Coruna in the final days of the transfer window.
Wenger has also hinted at other changes, boasting at the wealth of options available to him.
‘Apart from Sanchez and someone else who I haven’t seen yet, everyone returned okay (from international break),’ revealed Wenger.
‘At the top level of competition now you don’t have enough time to practice. There are lots of competitions.
‘Maybe we’ll rest a few [on Saturday] because we have a game on Tuesday but when you have a big squad it is easy.’
Southampton will be hoping to give a debut to one of their new signings in the exciting capture of Sofiane Boufal from Lille.
The Moroccan joined in a club record deal, and is set to battle Shkodran Mustafi in an effort to impress his new supporters.
Barcelona were interested in Boufal up to January, so Arsenal will have to keep an eye on an undoubtedly talented player.
