Arsenal Star Rules Himself Out Of Manchester United Clash

Arsenal FC v RSC Anderlecht - UEFA Champions League

Arsenal have been sweating on the fitness of a number of players.

Never before have Arsenal fans paid so much attention to an international break. Throughout the last ten days, many of their star players have found themselves at risk of picking up an injury while outside of Arsene Wenger’s control.

Contradictory reports in relation to the fitness of Alexis Sanchez caused dismay among supporters. At one stage it was even reported that the attacker would play against Uruguay last Tuesday night, despite picking up a hamstring injury.

After a turbulent 24 hours, Chile eventually clarified that Sanchez had suffered a muscle strain, and would be fit for their crucial World Cup qualifier. However, despite scoring to goals in the game, Arsenal have yet to fully assess their star player, and have not yet confirmed whether or not he will play any role in their clash against Manchester United.

However one player who will definitely not play any role in the game against United is Santi Cazorla. The Spanish midfielder has not featured since picking up an Achilles injury during Arsenal’a 6-0 win over Ludogorets on the October 19.

Although Cazorla told Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, (Via Sky Sports), that he is “trying to return as soon as possible”, the midfielder couldn’t confirm when he would in fact make his return, save for saying, “I cannot say if it will be soon, or if I still have a few weeks left”.

Consequently, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin will be battling for a place in Wenger’s starting team this weekend.
