Arsenal welcome Southampton to the Emirates this afternoon as they look to build on the 3-1 win at Watford two weeks ago.
Since that afternoon, the Gunners have spent £52m on defender Shkodran Mustafi and forward Lucas Pérez, with Calum Chambers and Jack Wilshere being allowed to depart on loan for the season.
For this afternoon’s game, manager Arsene Wenger has decided to throw both players in at the deep end, coming into the side in place of Rob Holding and Alexis Sanchez. Granit Xhaka is on the bench, with Francis Coquelin starting next to Santi Cazorla in midfield.

Pérez is on the bench, while Olivier Giroud returns to the starting lineup for the first time this season, coming in for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Wenger had confirmed yesterday that Aaron Ramsey would not be involved in this match or next week’s opening Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
For the away side, Claude Puel is still looking for his first win as Southampton manager, but his side’s record at Arsenal makes for grim reading – they have not won any of the last 17 occasions this fixture has taken place.
