Arsenal Should Target Spanish Forward Nolito After Man City Setback

Arsenal may have a chance to sign Manchester City and Barcelona target Nolito, after the Spanish forward revealed he is yet to speak with either Luis Enrique or Pep Guardiola in an interview with AS.

The Celta Vigo attacker enjoyed an excellent 2015/16 campaign in La Liga, scoring 12 times and assisting in 7 goals in just 27 games in Spain’s top flight.

“I’m enjoying it like a kid would and I’m not thinking about whether Barça will sign a forward. If Barcelona sign a striker then no problem. I congratulate them,” he said.

“I’m proud that two great coaches like Luis Enrique and Guardiola are interested. I’m lucky that they have me in mind; it gives you a boost. But I’m focusing on the Euros and nothing else. I haven’t spoken to either of them,” he stressed.

Although Nolito does not dismiss a move to either club entirely, he does not issue any pleas for Manchester City to sign him, which could interest a former pursuer of his talents in Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is clearly in the market for a striker, and after Leicester’s Jamie Vardy rejected the London club’s invitation to join, various media outlets have linked the Gooners with seemingly every top striker in Europe, from Inter’s Mauro Icardi to Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, with the age of a potential new recruit obviously not a prime factor in Wenger’s mind considering the age of Vardy (29) and that of another target in Islam Slimani (28) the Frenchman would be wise to pounce on Nolito’s reluctance to join Man City immediately.

Nolito is currently enjoying the richest vein of form in his life for both Celta Vigo and Spain, and there is no doubt of the ability and skill present.

The 29-year-old is stronger on his right foot but is relatively ambidextrous, and his ability to be a potent threat using his muscle and speed is a huge asset to any team.

In addition, Nolito’s versatility is hugely beneficial, with the know-how to play either on the left-wing or as a forward.

We still wouldn’t be surprised if the Spaniard joins Man City, but Arsene Wenger could regret missing out if moves for Slimani, Aubameyang or Icardi fall through.
