Manchester United’s out-of-favour centre-back Jonny Evans looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford with both Arsenal and West Brom vying for his signature, according to the Mirror.
The player, who’s apparently worth £10 million, is said to interest Arsenal, who could swoop in ahead of West Brom for what looks like a back-up to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. Although it must be flattering for two Premier League clubs to be chasing him, Evans would be better advised to punt for West Brom.
At the Emirates, it is difficult to see him finding many more Premier League appearances than the 14 he mustered for Louis van Gaal’s men last season.
The Baggies represent a far better chance for the 27-year-old to find first team football. 51 goals conceded last season was hardly a disaster for Tony Pulis’ men but this could be helped with the addition of an experienced centre-back like the Northern Irishman.
Now is the time for Evans to grasp a new opportunity. With Arsenal he could have the pleasure of being with one of the country’s top clubs, competing in the Champions League. However, he should have the sense to know the Hawthorns is where he will see more action, should he move on.
