Arsenal Reject West Ham Approach For Defender [Report]

Kieran Gibbs of Arsenal

It’s hard to get away from Arsenal transfer news lately.

The deal for Alexandre Lacazette seems to take a new turn each day, with the Lyon manager admitting on Tuesday that there are some offers “you cannot refuse”. Add to this the constant Riyad Mahrez and Shkodran Mustafi links, and Gooners are no doubt hoping that an announcement for someone is imminent.

In fact, links with incoming players are so strong that outgoings are sometimes swept cruelly under the rug. As a result, Arsenal fans will be happy to hear that the North London club has rejected an approach for a defender.

Given that the club had become synonymous with ‘selling’ during their nine-year baron spell, it should come as a relief that full-back Kieran Gibbs will be staying at the club.

Despite being a first-team regular at the Emirates three or four seasons ago, the Englishman has since been eclipsed by Spanish teammate Nacho Monreal.

Gibbs, however, has made it clear that he is willing to stay and fight for his place at the club, and with Monreal being significantly older, this loyalty may payoff one day.

It is understood via the Evening Standard that West Ham were the club that were interested in the 26-year-old and were looking to secure a loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

With Aaron Cresswell out for four months with a knee injury, the East London club are looking frantically for a new left-back. With Carl Jenkinson’s Arsenal-to-West Ham move going so well, Slaven Bilic’s side were eager to repeat the same trick.

Arsene Wenger’s response was emphatic though: Kieran Gibbs is not for sale.

Perhaps this will give Arsenal fans one less thing to worry about as we launch into the final month of the transfer window.
