Arsenal Interested In Move For Manchester United Defender As Wenger Grows Desperate

Arsenal , Manchester United

The Telegraph have made the stunning claim that Arsenal are lining up a move to sign Manchester United defender Phil Jones, with uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford.

That is despite the fact that Jones has been told by hierachy at his current club that a departure for him is impossible at this stage.

However, United’s planned move for Jose Fonte could still see Jones’s exit.

Rumours suggested yesterday that Arsenal’s attempt to sign West Brom’s Jonny Evans have been rebuffed by the Baggies, much to the relief of Gunners fans.

However, the alternative target of Jones, as suggested by the Telegraph, will worry Arsenal supporters all the more.

Essentially, should the move materialise, Wenger would be purchasing for the club another of the Red Devils unwanted players.

Fans may wonder how on earth Arsenal will compete with the likes of United if their defensive reinforcements come in the form of their rivals’ fringe players.

Jones, 24, has four years left on his deal in Manchester and earns in excess of £100,000 a week.

Having not made a league appearance since January the 2nd, Jones has struggled for fitness and game time and could relish a move to the Emirates.

Nevertheless, he may not receive as warm a welcome as he may hope in what would cap an incredibly frustrating summer for the London outfit.

The Telegraph also claim that Jose Mourinho has rejected any possibility of sanctioning a sale of a player to his rival Arsene Wenger, but after a number of expensive signings this summer the Portuguese may have to concede defeat in this battle.

Stoke City have also been linked with Jones, who is valued at the £15 million mark.
