Spanish Source Reveals The Three Factors Which Explain Why Arsenal’s Move For Griezmann Is Futile

Manchester United

Mundo Deportivo have revealed that Arsene Wenger’s attempts to bring Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann to Arsenal are ‘futile’ and says that the player has no interest in leaving the 2013-14 La Liga champions.

The player of the tournament at this summer’s European Championships, Griezmann sprung into life at Atletico after Christmas in his debut season, and is now widely regarded as one of the world’s finest players at just 25 years old.

An exclusive from Squakwa emerged over the past few days stating that Wenger had been pursuing a move for Griezmann during the summer but it had been scuppered by Chelsea’s refusal to sell Diego Costa back to the Spanish giants.

In addition, reports in France claim that it was Arsenal’s board who have blocked a move for the French international.

However, Mundo’s article clearly states that Wenger is preparing a €70 million bid for Griezmann, but lament that any proposed move will never materialise.

‘Arsene Wenger, coach of Arsenal, must be the only person in the world who thinks he can convince Antoine Griezmann to abandon Atletico Madrid. [The] French footballer is the ultimate impossible dream [for] the manager of the Gunners.

A futile dream that even fans of English club have responded with skepticism and irony.’

Mundo went on to explain that there are three factors which Wenger has completed missed as to why a deal is impossible.

Firstly, the biggest stumbling block of them all is that Griezmann has absolutely no desire to leave Los Rojiblancos after signing a long-term deal.

Secondly, Mundo reveal that Paris Saint-Germain had enquired if the player had any interest in joining the French champions, additionally noting that Unai Emery’s side were stronger than the Gunners, and Griezmann had immediately rejected their advances.

And finally, as it always seems to for Arsenal all roads led to finances, and in this case the Spanish news outlet inform its readers that the Gunners would both be unwilling and unable to activate Griezmann’s buyout clause, which stands at €100 million after the player signed a new long-term deal with Diego Simeone’s outfit this summer.

However, it’s not all pessimism for Arsenal fans, as Lucas Perez is set to join.

We explained why the Deportivo la Coruna ace will be an excellent acquisition for the club when comparing him to Alexandre Lacazette and Olivier Giroud.
