Arsenal Midfielder Hits Back At Sky Pundit Following Criticism

Jack Wilshere has responded to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, who had criticized the young England and Arsenal midfielder.

Wilshere spoke to the Mirror about the criticism he received and claims that the Sky pundit should be more understanding as to why the midfielder could be struggling for consistency due to ongoing injuries.

“With all due respect, I think Redknapp should have some sympathy and understanding. It’s easy for someone to go on television and say: ‘He should be doing this, he should be doing that’.

“But, if you look back, he was injured just as much as I was. Maybe more than I was. And he was never injured at my age as well, and it does take a lot of mental strength [to come back].

“So to hear people go on TV and say: ‘He’s got to be doing this or that,’ I don’t need that. I listen to people like the boss here, Gary Neville, people who talk a lot of sense and can help me with my game.”

The Sky pundit criticized the young English midfielder after Arsenal’s opening Premier League game of this season which the Gunners won 2-1. Wilshere has received a significant amount of criticism following the 22-year-old being pictured smoking after England’s debacle at the World Cup.

“All the midfield players Arsenal have got cannot get into this team. You’ve got Wilshere, Ramsey and Arteta, who is captain so has to play, Ozil to come back and and Cazorla. I think Wilshere has got it all on to get into this team.

“Jack Wilshere’s problem is Jack Wilshere. He’s not performing. He’s got to take games by the scruff of the neck like two years ago – there’s no excuses anymore.

“It’s nothing to do with smoking. I played with better players who smoked. I think he’s competing with Ozil for a place because Ramsey will always score more goals.”
