Arsenal are already making moves ahead of the January transfer window.
Yet another transfer window in nearly upon us and yet more news of Arsenal’s reported interest in Julian Draxler is being documented in the press.
However unlike during previous windows, there appears to be something more than just idle speculation driving the story on this occasion.
For one thing, Wolfsburg have struggled in the Bundesliga this season, finding themselves in 15th place, just two points clear of bottom side Darmstadt 98.
Secondly, according to Bild (via Talksport), Draxler has fallen out with Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs, and has even been told that he will never play for the club again. Unless the pair reconcile, this raises the prospect of the 23 year-old leaving Die Wölfe next month.
An outcome that looks increasingly likely after The Sunday Express reported that Draxler has demanded a transfer away from Volkswagen Arena after being left out of the Wolfsburg side that lost 5-0 to Bayern Munich on Saturday.
His availability has therefore alerted some of Europe’s leading clubs, chief among whom are Arsenal and Juventus.
However the Gunners look to have stolen a march on their rivals, after The Sunday Express claimed that Arsenal have already made an enquiry over the availability of Draxler.
Although nothing is certain at this stage, any move for Draxler would cost the Gunners in the region of £30 million.
While Arsenal fans may not like to hear it, the arrival of Draxler could potentially speed up the departure of either Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez.
Neither player has yet to sign a new contract with the Gunners, and Arsene Wenger could struggle to fit all three players into his starting line-up in the event Arsenal signing the German.
Alternatively, capturing Draxler could encourage both Ozil and Sanchez to sign new deals as making such a high profile signing would underline Arsenal’s ambition to challenge for major honours.
Nevertheless, all remains within the realms of speculation for now.
