Arsenal And Liverpool Set To Do Battle Over Torino Striker

Both Liverpool and Arsenal were looking to add a striker to their respective squads during the transfer window.

Throughout the summer transfer window, both Arsenal and Liverpool made no secret of the fact that they were both actively pursuing a number of centre forwards ahead of the new season.

Although Sadio Mane and Lucas Perez signed for Arsenal and Liverpool respectively, neither player can be described as a traditional centre forward. This has left Arsenal particularly vulnerable, as a result of having few options who can offer a similar threat to Olivier Giroud.

Moreover, with the Gunners having the additional strain of playing in the Champions League, and doubts surrounding the fitness of Danny Welbeck, it seems Arsene Wenger remains interested in bringing in another striker.

It therefore didn’t come as too much of a surprise to see both clubs linked with a move for Torino’s Andrea Belotti. The 22 year-old Italian international has become one of the Serie A’s most consistent goal scorers, hitting the back of the net of 16 occasions last season.

Belotti underlined his ability as a poacher after scoring a hat-trick against Bologna in August, highlights of which you can view below.

Given Belotti’s age and form, the Torino front-man could prove to be a bargain at the £12.5 million The Sun have quoted as his asking price.

Indeed, his mobility would suit the playing styles adopted by both Arsenal and Liverpool.
