Arsenal have been installed as favourites to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Adrien Rabiot, who has been identified as the man to take Santi Cazorla’s place in the team.
Rabiot, 21, may be considered as one for the future by the hierarchy in Paris, but it’s clear Arsene Wenger wants him as soon as he can possibly acquire the midfielder after bookmakers gave punters the shortest odds on the likelihood of the player moving to the Emirates.
This is just days after Rabiot himself revealed his desire to play Premier League football, in an interview with Telefoot.
“I really liked my time in England and the life there, even outside of football,
I told myself that I will return one day. I have always had the desire to play in England, it is in me. The Premier League – that is football.”
Now, it has also been made clear that Rabiot is the man Arsenal has targeted as the replacement for fan favourite Santi Cazorla.
Cazorla may have had a terrific start to the current campaign, but there is little doubt that the Spaniard will soon run out of steam in midfield with his thirty-second birthday approaching in December.
Rabiot is ten years his junior, and would provide a freshness to the Gunners squad, reinvigorating what was an old and tired Arsenal midfield.
Matthieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta have departed, with Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny being recruited in May and January of this year.
Now, Rabiot’s seemingly imminent arrival could be Wenger’s final purge of his older players in the middle of the park, with Cazorla being culled as the victim.
Transfermarkt value the player at €12 million, but it is expected that Unai Emery’s side will demand much more for a prized asset in Rabiot.
