Arsenal Legend Deletes His Entire Gunners History On Social Media

Arsenal fans have today stumbled across some odd activity by former Gunners captain Mikel Arteta and are pretty upset to say the least.

A fan favourite at the Emirates, Arteta enjoyed a five-year career that saw him lift the FA Cup twice as captain and played over 100 games for the London club.

Wracked by injury last season, the Spaniard decided to hang up his boots during the summer and head north to take up a coaching role with good friend Pep Guardiola at rival Premier League side Manchester City.

Leaving London with the blessings of fans and Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, there really couldn’t have been a better way to ‘break up’.

However, things now appear to have taken a turn for the weird as Arteta has erased all references of his time at Arsenal from his social media accounts.

Completely sanitised of any reference to his now unfollowed former club, his Instagram account boasts a mere two images. It is as if he was never a Gunner, let alone their captain.

While you might say having an account full of images of him in City’s rival’s jersey could perhaps create a conflict of interests for the former player, the draconian steps he has taken are nothing short of a kick in the teeth for Arsenal fans, his former teammates and manager alike.

Here is what a few disgruntled Gooners had to say:

The chorus of angry boos from Arsenal fans suggest that a fan favourite Arteta is no more. However, in all the hurt and hate, one Gooner has actually managed to keep a bit of perspective about the whole affair.

While it turns out that Petr Cech had actually deleted some other social media posts, at least this Arsenal fan has the right idea.

So that’s it then, Arteta has gone from hero to villian in a matter of hours for some supporters. Football really is a funny game sometimes.
