In a case of scorpion kick goals being all the rage now, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has added one of his own.
The French international emulated Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s stunning strike against Sunderland last week (and then some) by scoring this screamer against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
Reacting to a cross from Alexis Sanchez that had been hit behind him, the French international adjusted his body, flicked a leg behind to meet the ball and somehow got enough elevation on the ball to loop it over Wayne Hennessey in the Crystal Palace goal.
With Tottenham winning earlier on Sunday, the pressure was on Arsenal to respond and regain third place in the league table (leapfrogging Man City in the process), as they look to keep up with league leaders Chelsea and narrow the gap on second-placed Liverpool.
Giroud’s strike has calmed the home side’s nerves considerably and at the time of writing, they still lead 1-0 midway through the first half.
