Arsenal Fans React To New Signing Mustafi’s Injury Scare On International Duties

Arsenal may have had a sluggish period in the middle of the transfer season, much like their Premier League form in recent seasons, though a strong start and finish have set them up nicely for the season ahead.

The arrival of Granit Xhaka in the opening days of the summer gave Gunners’ fans hope that this might finally be their year. However, it wasn’t until the dying days of the transfer window that Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger managed to secure the services of further top class talent.

After weeks of failed bids and rejections, Wenger finally managed to acquire the services of striker Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruña and Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia. While the addition of Perez gives Wenger even more firepower up front, the arrival Germany international Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia finally remediates Arsenal’s defensive crisis.

Sorely lacking options since the preseason, when Per Mertesacker and Gabriel picked up injuries that will keep them out for months rather than weeks, Mustafi arrival is a huge boost to Arsenal’s creaking defence.

However, it seems that the Arsenal injury hoodoo has already struck as Mustafi, while on international duty overnight against Finland and before ever having line out for Arsenal, gave fans a massive fright when he went down under a heavy challenge and appeared to have done himself some damage.

As Gooners held their breath, rival fans couldn’t contain their glee and took to Twitter to have a pop at Arsenal’s endless injury battles.

Here are some of the best.

As it turns out, the 24-year-old was able to continue and appeared none the worse for wear following some treatment with the magic sponge, a fact pointed out by some relieved members of the Gunners’ faithful.

Fans will now be looking forward to seeing Mustafi line out in the red and white of Arsenal after the international break, when on September 10th following they take on Southampton in the Premier League.

Any bumps and bruises should be gone by then, right?
