Arsene Wenger is the early favourite to succeed Roy Hodgson as England manager and rather than react with horror, Arsenal fans have instead revealed who they want to see take over at the Emirates.
Since Hodgson’s resignation following his side’s dismal 2-1 defeat to international lightweights Iceland in their last 16 clash at the European Championships, the list of names being suggested as a replacement for the FA’s top job has been growing steadily.
With England U21 boss Gareth Southgate ruling himself out of contention, Glen Hoddle, Ian Wright and Jurgen Klinsmann have since all been suggested as candidates; however, by far the most intriguing name put forward is current Arsenal boss Wenger.
Reportedly interested in the job and with the FA willing to wait until Wenger’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of next season, momentum is growing for the Frenchman after what had initially seemed like a fanciful suggestion by disgruntled Arsenal fans.
It now appears that Gunners fans are almost wishing their veteran manager away and are gleefully suggesting that their choice to replace Wenger is none other than Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

Simeone expressed doubt over his future at the Madrid club following his side’s Champions League final defeat to city rivals Real last month, leading top European clubs to sit up and take notice.
However, since the disappointment of a second final loss in three years, Simeone has rebounded and reasserted his commitment to the La Liga side by signing a contract extension that will see him remain in Spain until 2020.
This minor roadblock has not managed to dissuade Gooners from making Simeone their number one choice to succeed Wenger next May.
It’s a long shot but who knows, with the amount of money sloshing around the Premier League these days, it has become more fantasy football than reality. And that means anything is possible right?
