Despite the recent signing of Granit Xhaka to bolster Arsene Wenger’s midfield ahead of next season, it looks as though the Gunners may be ready to go all out in their pursuit of Premier League-winning star N’Golo Kante.
With both Chelsea and Manchester City said to be interested in the Frenchman also, the Emirates hierarchy would be willing to offer up to €40 million (£31.2 million) despite Kante’s release clause being a modest €25 million (£19.5 million), according to French outlet L’Équipe (via Getfootballnewsfrance.com).
Considering Arsenal’s record fee to date, even when factoring in inflation, was £38.2 million for Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid back in 2013, Kante’s potential fee would be huge for a player who was largely unheard of until last season.
That being said, Arsenal have a substantial rebuilding job to do over the summer if they wish to they pick up some silverware next May.
The 25-year-old could be pivotal in achieving this goal should he sign, however reports elsewhere, namely in the Mirror, suggest Chelsea are trying to tempt him to Stamford Bridge by offering to treble his current weekly wages.
With Kante included in France’s Euro 2016 squad, one suspects matters such as a transfer elsewhere will be to the back of his mind this week in the build up to Friday night’s opening game, however there is no denying the midfield wizard has a big decision to make following the finals in his home country.
