Arsenal Dealt Massive Blow In Their Pursuit Of Leicester’s N’Golo Kanté

With Jamie Vardy already having turned down a move to Arsenal, the Gunners are set for more disappointment with reports today that another Leicester star is to snub them.

The Telegraph are today alleging that the France international has made up his mind about where he wants his next destination to be – and that is with new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.

Premier League champions Leicester have offered Kanté a new contract to tie him dowm at the King Power Stadium on much better terms (as well as removing that problematic £20m release clause), but the 25 year old is apparently minded to leave the Foxes this summer and move to one of the plethora of European giants chasing his signature.

Despite tentative interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, the report states that the four clubs who were leading the chase for him were Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea. Of those four, Kanté would prefer to play for the latter option.

There appears to be a game of brinkmanship going on with those clubs and Kanté. Although the release clause is set at £20m, Leicester (as per the report) are only required to accept the highest offer over that figure – therefore no club wants to show their hand too early.

In fact, but for that quirk of the release clause, the Telegraph state that Arsenal may have already bid for the player by now. As it turns out, not only will they have to outbid Chelsea for him, but Wenger would also have to convince him that a move to the Emirates would be the best thing for his career going forward.

Conte has been frustrated in his attempts to sign Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan, which in turn has led to his increased interest what would be a far less complicated transfer in Kanté. Lassana Diarra and Axel Witsel are also on the clubs’s radar, as the new Chelsea boss looks to rebuild the squad after a horrendous season last year.

A number of players, including goalkeeper Marco Amelia and forwards Alexandre Pato and Radamel Falcao, have left the club today, while Belgian international Michy Batshuayi is expected to complete a £33m deal from Marseille in the coming days.
