Arsenal Boss Finally Admits To Talks With Valencia Defender Shkodran Mustafi

Following weeks of speculation, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has finally admitted that he is in talks with Valencia over a deal to bring Shkodran Mustafi to the Emirates Stadium.

It has long been assumed and reported that the Gunners were chasing the signature of the Germany international, but until now Wenger has remained tight-lipped.

Following a season-opening defeat at home to Liverpool, Arsenal’s defensive frailties are all too apparent. Injuries to the experienced Per Mertesacker and Gabriel have left Wenger with little to work with when trying to fashion a solid back line.

A draw to Premier League champions Leicester City yesterday now leaves the London side five points behind Chelsea and both Manchester sides, United and City.

Speaking to French TV station SFR Sport and reported by the Evening Standard and the Get French Football Twitter page, Wenger has finally, two weeks into the season, admitted that Mustafi is an Arsenal target.

With the transfer window set to close in a littler over a week, Gunners fans will be praying that the notoriously frugal veteran manager can bring himself to spend the money that is needed to shore up Arsenal’s creaking defence with a top centre-back.

Failure to do so now might well condemn the London club to Premier League also-rans.
