According to a report this morning in The Express, Arsenal are on the verge of signing Bolton and England u21 defender Rob Holding.
The 21 year-old has had a breakthrough season at Bolton this year, and has attracted the attention of some of the country’s bigger clubs. Despite a poor season for The Trotters, Holding impressed throughout and was awarded Player of the Year by fans.
The Gunners have had a £1.5 million bid accepted following their first offer of £750,000.
Holding would become the second Gunners signing of the summer, after they already secured the services of Granit Xhaka.
While this is not a move that will fill the Emirates faithful with confidence that they can go on and win the Premier League next season, it is nonetheless a step in the right direction as it is an investment in both youth and depth.
Holding is a solid player, and was an integral part of the England u21’s triumph in the Toulon Tournament last month.
This does not come across as a completely absurd report, and the deal could be close to being finalised.
In the coming days, Arsenal fans will be eager to see more money being spent.
