How very Arsenal this transfer window is turning out to be. True to form, Arsenal are looking like they won’t be bringing anyone else in.
Wenger says club has targets they will pursue before Tuesday but is “not very confident” #afc will sign anyone because “we are not close”.

James Olley is the Chief Football Correspondent for the London Evening Standard. So it’s highly likely he probably knows something, what with the Standard being one of London’s largest papers. So we can safely assume there’s some truth to this. Which is quite depressing really.
The Arsenal transfer window always starts full of promise. A big name or a host of smaller names come in early. Things are looking good. But the early signings rarely address the real issues at the core of the team. When Petr Cech came in, people were expecting Wenger to be ruthless. To drop Ospina after a good campaign for a world-class keeper suggested Arsene didn’t want to play anymore.
But then nothing happened. It’s well document what Arsenal need, a striker and a DM. They’ve certainly been linked with moves for both, but nothing. Arsenal now find themselves with under a week to go and not enough legwork done to potentially bring any of these transfers over the line.
For the more optimistic out there, it could of course be a ploy. Wenger and Arsenal are notoriously tight-lipped. If a deal was on the verge of occurring, would the admit as much? The Ozil transfer has been a curse on fans in the sense that they now cling to the hope that Arsene may pull off an ‘ozil’ and bring in some quality late on. But who? Cavani and Rabiot of PSG has been mooted but nothing looks likely.
It looks like it’s going to be a VERY stressful end to the window for the red part of North London.
