Antoine Griezmann Opens The Door To A Possible Departure From Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann has been the subject of a great deal of speculation this week.

Although he may have signed a five year contract extension with Atletico Madrid in June, Arsenal, Manchester United and PSG have each been linked with moves for Antoine Griezmann in recent weeks.

The French playmaker rose to prominence after joining Atletico from Real Sociedad for £24 million in 2014, and confirmed his reputation as one of the game’s star players at Euro 2016.

Consequently, he has been the subject of a great deal of transfer speculation in recent months, particularly after the Champions League final, when it seemed as if Diego Simeone would step down as manger of the Spanish club.

Indeed, it would seem that the futures of Griezmann and Simeone have become inextricably linked, after the attacker told French TV that he would only consider leaving Atletico if the Argentinian manager did the same.

The only doubt would be if Simeone leaves for PSG or wherever.

I called him before extending my contract and he confirmed to me that he was staying. I can learn a lot from him.

PSG are not my goal at the moment. I’m happy in Spain.

I’m always proud to be popular with the fans. I try to smile and do my best. If they like it, it’s even better.

This of course opens up a number of possibilities. After his success with Atletico, Simeone has been linked with a number of managerial vacancies throughout the last two years.

Therefore, if the Argentinian were to avail of any future job offer, he could potentially bring Griezmann with him. Such a scenario will interest Arsenal fans, as Arsene Wenger could yet step down as Gunners boss next summer.

Alternatively, Simeone and Griezmann could go their separate ways, opening the door for United to make a move for the much sought after player.
