Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has handed Jose Mourinho and Manchester United a huge boost in their attempts to lure the France international to Old Trafford.
Griezmann, who was top scorer at this summer’s European Championships, has been heavily linked with a move to the twenty-time English champions, who broke the world transfer record to sign Paul Pogba.
And the 25-year-old Atletico star has certainly not ruled out a move to the red half of Manchester.
Le Parisien recently asked if Griezmann was aware of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in his services – an allegation that he not only confirmed as true, but admitted that he rejected the opportunity to join them.
Griezmann said: “Yes, but as it was during Euros I told my agent I did not want to listen.
“I told him: ‘I do not want you talking to me of Atletico or Paris – I want you to leave me in Clairefontaine [France’s training camp].’ But I know they were very interested.
“They are a big club that wants to become even bigger. I hope for them that they will get there.”
Such a development is a massive boost for the Red Devils, with PSG thought to be amongst the most likely destinations for Griezmann, who has also revealed he is operating without an agent.
“From now I’m going to operate without an agent,” he said. “But I will always have the advice of my father and also my mentor, Eric Olhats [a scout who discovered Griezmann].”
Griezmann also admitted that he was only convinced to sign a new contract with Los Rojiblancos because Diego Simeone told him that he would remain manager of the club until 2020.
However, Simeone has since had his contract reduced to 2018, which increases the likelihood of Griezmann’s exit from the Vicente Calderon before then.
The former Real Sociedad star is also known to be very close with Manchester United star Paul Pogba and Morgan Schneiderlin.
It’s looking more likely.. after this summer, we cannot rule out the move!
