It’s been a week to forget for Arsenal fans as a season opening loss at home to Liverpool was made worse by the news that Aaron Ramsey is set to be out for a month.
Now to make things even more dire, it has been reported, via the Daily Star, that Gunners winger Alex Iwobi has joined Ramsey on the sidelines for the next four weeks.
A bright start against Liverpool at the weekend saw the 20-year-old net his first goal of the season. Replaced on the hour mark by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it has been revealed that the young Nigerian suffered a thigh strain during the game.
Already decimated by injuries, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger will likely be wondering what he did to deserve the bad luck his side has endured his summer.
Injuries to experienced defenders Per Mertesacker and Gabriel has left the veteran manager struggling to fashion a sturdy defence heading into the weekend’s clash with Premier League champions Leicester.
With still no sign of the reported deal for Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi and news now that attacking target Riyad Mahrez has rejected a move to London in favour of a contract extension with the champions, it seems that Wenger is getting a season’s worth of bad luck all in the first week.
If that is the case, fans will be hoping that it will be plain sailing from here on as by the law of averages and balance the Gunners are due some good news right about now.
