Arsenal stormed past West Ham United on Saturday to move to second place in the Premier League table.
With the midweek EFL Cup defeat to Southampton still fresh in their minds, Arsene Wenger’s side put West Ham to the sword on Saturday with a comprehensive 5-1 win.
Key to the victory was forward Alexis Sánchez, the Chilean international scoring a fantastic hat-trick in a show of sheer individual brilliance.
Having already set up the opener for teammate Mesut Özil in the first half, Alexis got on the scoresheet himself to double Arsenal’s advantage with 18 minutes remaining. Showing brilliant technique and speed to burst past Arthur Masuaku, the forward struck past Darren Randolph giving the goalkeeper no chance.

His second came eight minutes later, teeing the ball up on the edge of the area before directing a half volley away from Randolph.
His final goal, and the one that the cap on the 5-1 victory, was a work of cheeky brilliance. With West Ham pushing forward in search of a goal, Alexis was able to break away on the counter while Winston Reid gave a futile chase. After a nice feint, Sánchez chipped the ball over Randolph to ensure that he would be leaving with the match ball.
The win moves Arsenal above Liverpool and Manchester City and ensures that the pressure is kept on Chelsea ahead of a busy December fixture schedule.
For Alexis, meanwhile, Arsenal will simply have to get his contract situation sorted sooner rather than later.
