Alex Iwobi News That Will Have Arsenal Fans Punching The Air With Happiness

during the Barclays Premier League match between Arsenal and Watford at Emirates Stadium on April 2, 2016 in London, England.

Reports this morning suggest that Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi is about to be rewarded for the brilliant start he has made to his senior career.

The 19 year old Nigerian international has been involved in some capacity in each of Arsenal’s last six games – starting four – and has responded to starting in their last two Premier League fixtures by scoring in both.

He has dislodged Theo Walcott from the starting lineup recently – a situation which looks like it will continue for the foreseeable future as he has made a big impression in his first taste of first team football.

The Mirror are today reporting that Iwobi’s fine form is set to be acknowledged with the offer of a new contract and a significant wage increase.

The forward only agreed a new deal last October – worth around £10,000 per week – that would tie him to the club for the next three years, but so good has his form been recently that the club are prepared to triple his wages and extend the contract by a further two years, which would take him up to 2021.

Iwobi’s is the latest contract to be reviewed by Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger. Wenger revealed recently that talks were progressing well on extensions for star duo Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil.

It is not all good news, however – the Mirror are also reporting this morning that talks with Jack Wilshere have stalled after the England international was involved in an altercation outside a London nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
