Alan Shearer Statue Prompts Hilarious Twitter Reaction

Alan Shearer Statue

Having a statue bestowed in your honour is about as sure a sign as any that you had a remarkable career and in a way, it’s really just the thought that counts. This way of looking at it is something which Alan Shearer will perhaps tell himself in the event of him feeling a little underwhelmed by the statue’s likeness to him.

While certainly not a hatchet job, Shearer isn’t all that immediately recognisable in it.

This of course was picked up on by many astute Twitter users this morning. Great fun has been had with a whole host of comparisons being made from Dale Winton (of 1990s Supermarket Sweep fame) to Korean DJ and inventor of the infuriatingly catchy ‘Gangnam Style’, Psy (primarily because of Shearer seeming to be mid-routine it seems).

But the clear winner among comparisons so far is another 1990s television gem in the form of ‘The Head’ from Art Attack.

The statue is estimated to have cost around £250,000 and will now become part of the furniture outside Shearer’s spiritual home of St. James’ Park. All in all, it’s a decent effort but Twitter users have also pointed out a basic mistake in Shearer’s portrayal besides his facial features and excessive hair as his hand is pointing with one figure rather than the open palm that became synonymous with the Geordie’s prolific career.
