With one of Chelsea’s main transfer targets this summer set to sign for Man United, Antonio Conte is continuing with the rest of his wish-list this window.
Sky Sports are reporting that the London club are close to acquiring the services of German defender Antonio Rudiger from Serie A giants, Roma.
It is believed that Conte is offering €34 million for Rudiger, who helped his club to a second place finish in Italy last season.
Sky are reporting that the 24-year-old’s agent is in London for talks with the Premier League champions.
With all their main rivals adding to their respective squads, this seems to be a good move by Chelsea. In winning the EPL title, they only conceded 33 goals – less than an average of one per game. However, both Tottenham Hotspur and Man United had tighter defences than the champions and Conte knows that if his side can become the stingiest side in English football, this will improve their chances at domestic and European silverware.
Rudiger was part of the Germany side who won the recent Confederations Cup. The Germans beat Chile in the final of a competition where they blasted their way past all opponents.
Rudiger will be hoping that he will win more honours, should this transfer get completed in the coming days. After spending two years in Italy, the highly rated defender will be excited at the prospect of playing in England.
Even if this transfer is completed, Chelsea, and the rest of the big Premier League teams, are sure to look to get a lot more business done before the new season starts again.
If Chelsea can get one or two more players of the caliber of Rudiger, they will be even stronger in the 2017/2018 season as they look to retain their title.
