Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland are set to discover their final qualifying opponents as they look to book a place in next year’s World Cup.
The Boys in Green are unseeded, however, so they will be the underdogs no matter which of Switzerland, Italy, Croatia or Denmark they end up against. Still, having seen off the challenge of Wales last week their tails will be up – and although a big challenge awaits next month, they will not fear anyone right now as they look to book their place in the World Cup finals for the first time since 2002.
Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland, meanwhile, will also be in the hat as they seek to end an even bigger wait to reach the tournament. 1986 was the last time they went to a World Cup, and they are now closer than ever before to ending that barren run.
