Newcastle Set To Be One Of The Busiest Clubs On Transfer Deadline Day

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley could be set to finally give manager Rafa Benitez some signings this month.

The Magpies have found themselves embroiled in the Premier League relegation battle, and Benitez had been adamant that transfers were needed in order to help the side avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

A striker was seen as the priority, and having missed out on a loan move for Daniel Sturridge this week and seemingly refusing to pay Feyenoord’s £20m asking price for Nicolai Jorgensen, reports on deadline day have now suggested that Benitez has turned his attention to out-of-favour Leicester forward Islam Slimani – but there is  competition for the Algerian in the form of West Ham.

Newcastle have already recruited Chelsea winger Kenedy on loan until the end of the season, and were hoping to sign Manchester City duo Joe Hart and Eliaquim Mangala on similar terms but those deals are now highly unlikely to go ahead. One player who does look set to come through the doors at St. James’ Park, however, is Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The 29-year-old Slovakian international would successfully conclude Benitez’s search for a goalkeeper, and would allow Freddie Woodman to join Aberdeen until the end of the campaign.

Two more players set to leave the club on Wednesday are Rolando Aarons and Aleksandar Mitrovic, with the former on the verge of joining Hull City in the Championship, and the latter close to returning to Anderlecht after Newcastle refused to loan him to Brighton and Hove Albion.
