Liverpool should seal a top four place against Brighton at Anfield this weekend, but might have to do so without one of their prolific front three.
Sadio Mane has emerged as a major doubt for the Premier League closer on Sunday, in a development that will greatly frustrate manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Liverpool Echo have reported that Mane was involved in a warm-up in training on Friday but did not take part in the full session, having picked up a knock in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last Sunday.
Mane’s absence would be a big one for Liverpool, though their task on Sunday was made considerably more straightforward by Chelsea’s failure to defeat Huddersfield in midweek. Klopp’s side only need a point against Brighton to be assured of a top four finish, but will know full well that defeat could see the Blues snatch that place right at the death if they see off Newcastle at the same time.
The loss of Mane would also see another body on the treatment table, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez ruled out for the rest of the campaign. Emre Can also appear to be losing his battle to be fit for the Champions League final, but Adam Lallana looks set to at least take a place on the bench for the final two matches of the campaign.
