16-Year-Old Irish Prospect Drafted Into Preston First Team Squad

The Irish contingent at Preston North End’s first team is set to grow that bit larger this weekend with another Cork inclusion.

Although Kev O’Connor and Andy Boyle have departed Deepdale temporarily, Sean Maguire, Daryl Horgan, Greg Cunningham and Alan Browne remain at the club for the side’s playoff push this season.

In addition to the above names, Browne’s former club Ringmahon Rangers are now set to see another graduate get drafted into the Lilywhites senior side, as 16-year-old Adam O’Reilly is, according to Rangers themselves, due to travel with the Preston squad for Saturday’s Championship clash at Brentford.

The caption reads:

“Some great news this morning from Preston North End. Adam O’Reilly will travel with the first team squad for the first time for their Championship fixture away to Brentford FC. What an achievement for Adam ..It’s a proud day for all in Ringmahon Rangers AFC and all the coaches that helped Adam’s development.

“It is also a very special day for his family who have guided Adam through the years and special mention to his father Kieran who coached and encouraged him on to better himself all the time. Adam has made massive strides over past few months and we wish him every success for tomorrow and the future.”

O’Reilly joined Preston from Ringmahon on a four-year deal in November 2016. In that time, he has progressed from the club’s U16 to U18 setup, and while it remains to be seen if the young midfielder is included in the match day squad or is simply being taken in case of emergency, the very fact that he is being brought at all shows the level of faith and hope the club have for the young Irish talent.
