Done Deal: Arsenal Confirm Signing Of Sokratis Papastathopoulos From Dortmund

Arsenal have announced their latest recruit with the arrival of Greek international defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund.

The deal was confirmed by the Premier League side on Monday afternoon, with an undisclosed fee (but believed to be in the region of £17.5m) having been agreed between the clubs in June.

The 30-year-old arrives on a long-term contract from the Bundesliga, wherein he won the 2017 DFB-PokDortmund Dormund, having been signed by Jurgen Klopp from Werder Bremen in 2013. He was also part of the AC Milan side that won the Scudetto in 2011, and counts Werder Bremen, Genoa and AEK Athens as his other former clubs.

In terms of his international career, Sokratis has earned  79 caps for the senior team, playing (and scoring) at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

His arrival is the latest in what promises to be a huge summer of change at Arsenal. With new manager Unai Emery replacing long-serving Arsene Wenger, the Gunners have already laid plans for the new era with the signings of Bernd Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Further arrivals are expected in the coming weeks, with Sampdoria’s Uruguayan international midfielder Lucas Torreira believed to be a major target for Emery.
