Shane Long may have just scored a crucial goal which could have huge say in whether Southampton avoid relegation this season.
The south-coast club are currently playing against Arsenal at The Emirates and they took an unlikely 0-1 lead thanks to everyone’s favourite Tipperary man.
An innocuous ball was played into the box and one would expect that Shkodran Mustafi would put boot to ball and send it into Row-Z like any other centre-half would do.
But no, he gambled, believed that his goalkeeper Peter Cech would come and collect the ball. Both players did neither and Long, in typical fox-in-the-box fashion, nipped in ahead of the German to steer the ball into the far post past Cech in what was a lovely finish.
January 2nd against Crystal Palace was the last time Long scored in the Premier League and hopefully, for the Republic of Ireland and Southampton, he can keep this up for the remainder of the season.
Update: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has since equalised for the hosts.
