He just can’t stop scoring.
Goals. It’s been a problem for the Republic of Ireland for a long time. Martin O’Neill’s team are desperately looking for someone who can consistently find the back of the net and we hope that Sean Maguire is that man.
The former Cork City man is in red-hot form at the moment for Preston North End in the Championship and he scored again yesterday as his side moved to just two points outside those elusive playoff positions as the race for Premier League promotion really begins to heat up.
Preston secured a 0-2 away win over struggling Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and it was Maguire who got that crucial opening goal with 10 minutes gone in the second half. The 23-year-old showed great agility and timing to get on the end of a long ball into the box which he scored with a wonderful diving header.
That’s now seven goals in seven games for the former League of Ireland star since he made his return from injury and let’s hope he can transfer this form to a green shirt when Ireland go up against Turkey on Friday.
