The dust is beginning to settle on last night’s epic encounter between Real Madrid and Juventus at the Bernabeu in Madrid.
Madrid secured passage into the semi-finals of the Champions League thanks to a last-gasp Cristiano Ronaldo penalty which gave them that crucial goal to nudge them ahead on aggregate and to avoid extra-time.
Up until that point, Juventus were clearly waiting for extra-time but then defender Mehdi Benatia brought down Lucas Vazquez with a clumsy challenge from behind and chaos ensued.
Gianluigi Buffon stepped over the mark in his protest to English referee Michael Oliver and received a red-card as a result. Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny came on to attempt to save Ronaldo’s penalty but the Portugal captain smashed the ball into the top corner and out of reach of the Polish keeper.
Buffon has made some comments in the media which reflect his bemusement at the penalty and when he was giving an interview to the media after the game last night, Ronaldo spotted the 40-year-old Italian and showed some true class by offering his consolations.
