Liverpool are in the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League after securing a 2-1 win at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
Liverpool survived a first-half bombardment, and benefited from a controversial offside decision, as they beat Manchester City 2-1 in their Champions League quarter-final second leg on Tuesday to win the tie 5-1.
The Merseysiders were always going to be under the pump for significant portions of this game as City looked to somehow get back into this tie but it wasn’t to be for the blue side of Manchester as they crashed out of the competition.
Salah’s equaliser to Gabriel Jesus’ opener was absolutely crucial because it all but killed off any hopes of an unlikely City comeback – the importance of that goal didn’t go unappreciated, none so more than Sky Sports’ Phil Thompson.
The former Liverpool assistant manager has no qualms about letting people know where his allegiances lie and if there was any doubt about that, just check out his reaction to Salah’s goal last night in the studio.
