With only 13 minutes on the clock, France have taken a 1-0 lead against Argentina in the first last-16 clash of this year’s World Cup.
At a raucous Kazan Arena, France have come flying out of the blocks and they almost took the lead in the opening 10 minutes when Antoine Griezmann smashed a freekick off the crossbar.
Argentina then had a small period of possession until a loose pass allowed Kylian Mbappe to steam forward from his own half into the Argentine box. Mbappe looked to have taken a touch too many but Marcus Rojo took the Frenchman down in the box in what was a stonewall penalty.
Grizemann then stood up at the spot and dispatched the penalty with absolute ease. Thankfully for Rojo, he only received a yellow card from the referee.
