The Republic of Ireland’s Callum O’Dowda is giving Martin O’Neill plenty of food for thought after putting in another excellent performance for Bristol City at the weekend.
O’Dowda has seven appearances for Ireland, the most recent of which came when he started for the boys in green in their crucial World Cup qualifier against Moldova at the beginning of the month.
The 22-year-old put in an assured performance that night and his continuing improvement will surely put him in the reckoning to make an impact against Denmark over the next couple of weeks.
After scoring a goal last week for his club, O’Dowda produced two assists for his club against Sunderland in a 2-1 victory which sees Bristol City rise to fourth place.
O’Dowda’s left foot is a huge asset to both club and country and his delivery provides excellent opportunities for his teammates as you can see from the footage below of the two goals Bristol scored yesterday.
He’s also not bad in front of goal as he produced a rasping shot which the Sunderland goalkeeper did well to parry away.
O’Neill will more than likely stick to his tried and trusted for the huge games against Denmark but O’Dowda should definitely be in the picture when someone is needed to make an impact from the bench.
