Shock As Salah’s Merseyside Derby Strike Wins Puskas Award

Salah scoring against Everton

There was some surprise at the FIFA Best awards in London tonight as Liverpool’s Mo Salah won the much coveted FIFA Puskas award for his lovely, curling strike in last season’s Merseyside derby.

There is no doubt that it was a sublime individual piece of play and skill but when you consider some of the other goals which were also nominated, it’s a bit of a shock to see Salah’s effort come up trumps.

His goal won 38% of the public vote and he fought off efforts from the like of Gareth Bale who scored a stunning bicycle kick in the Champions League final against Liverpool and also Bale’s former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, whose equally impressive effort against Juventus stunned viewers and spectators.

Here’s is Salah’s goal.

While below you will find Bale’s and Ronaldo’s strikes.

“I am very happy and very proud,” Salah said. “I have to thank everyone who voted for me.”
