Preston Manager Sings The Praises Of Sean Maguire And Offers Olive Branch To Daryl Horgan

There is a serious Irish contingent at Championship outfit Preston North End with the likes of Sean Maguire, Daryl Horgan, Greg Cunningham, Kevin O’Connor, Andy Boyle and Alan Browne all plying their trade with The Lilywhites.

The club are currently in eighth position and despite losing 3-2 away to Wolves at Molineux at the weekend, Preston look set to battle it out with the league’s best for a promotion spot this season with only eight points separating them an league-leaders Wolves.

It’s a huge boost for the Republic of Ireland to see all these players playing at a very high level and despite it not being the Premier League, the Championship as we know, is an extremely competitive and attritional league which can help prepare Irish players for the rigours of international football.

Preston are currently holding a fan forum where members of the coaching staff have the opportunity to speak with supporters and head coach, Alex Neil was full of praise for both Maguire and Boyle.

Speaking of Maguire, Neil said that the former Cork City striker has been a “revelation” for the club and that he also believes the 23-year-old will benefit from the layoff he is currently experiencing through injury.

With regards to Horgan, Neil has said that he hopes the former Dundalk winger will get an opportunity to prove himself in the near future and that the only reason he isn’t playing is due to the form of Maguire and Tom Barkhuizen.

It would be great to see Horgan get back into the team soon, especially with the opportunity that has presented itself with Maguire’s injury.
