Northern Ireland Overtake The Republic In FIFA World Rankings

The Republic of Ireland have fallen three places in the latest FIFA world rankings.

Despite a promising start to the Euro 2020 qualifiers which sees Ireland top Group D with 10 points after three wins and a draw from four fixtures, Mick McCarthy’s side have dropped three places to 32nd in the world.

Northern Ireland, on the other hand, have moved up five places in the world rankings after a superb start to their qualifying campaign.

Michael O’Neill’s side top Group C on 12 points with four wins from four games after securing home and away victories against Estonia and Belarus.

This form has seen Northern Ireland rise to 28th in the world, four places ahead of the Republic of Ireland.

The top four in the world remain unchanged as Belgium hold on to the number one spot with France, Brazil and England taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively.

After their UEFA Nations League triumph, Portugal have risen two places to fifth in the world thanks to their 1-0 win over the Netherlands.
