Newcastle Considering Bid To Sell Their Star Striker

It’s no secret that Rafa Benitez is unhappy with how the summer transfer window has gone for Newcastle United.

At the end of their Championship winning season, owner Mike Ashley promised funds to strengthen the squad but what has transpired has been a littering of missed-targets as Benitez has watched on seeing players he wanted join other clubs.

There have been some positives, Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund looks to be a shrewd piece of business and Florian Lejeune from La Liga side SD Eibar looks to be a very assured centre half. However, the narrative has been of that of frustration as tension continues to grow between manager and owner.

The latest situation at Newcastle is that they have to offload players before they can bring in any more. Benitez signed a lot of players before their Championship season commenced and many of these players need to be offloaded in order to free up the wage bill.

In recent days, Siem de Jong and Emmanuel Riviere have departed. Grant Hanley is also close to an exit as he is having a medical with Norwich today.

Another player is reportedly close to leaving and that is Newcastle’s star striker, Dwight Gayle.

However, it seems that Newcastle are looking closer to £20 million for the player and will only consider selling if they have an adequate replacement lined up. With only 36 hours or so left before the transfer window closes, the Magpies are playing a dangerous game. They seriously lack goals and selling their most likely outlet in this regard would be foolish.

We can’t imagine Benitez would sanction a deal if there is no replacement lined up, things will certainly be interesting on Tyneside over the next day or so.
