Republic of Ireland international Jon Walters has announced his retirement from football.
The striker announced his decision on social media today as his recent struggles with an Achilles injury has put an end to his footballing career.
Isn’t it ironic…my Achilles heel has literally been my Achilles heel and finished me off!
I am now retired from playing football
It’s been epic

The 35-year-old joined Ipswich Town at the beginning of the season on a loan deal from Premier League side Burnley. Since September, he has been suffering from an Achilles problem which was also the month of his last appearance for the Republic of Ireland, a 4-1 away loss to Wales in the UEFA Nations League.
The striker played a pivotal role in Ireland qualifying for the 2016 European Championships, scoring a brace in the 2-0 win over Bosnia Herzegovina to secure Ireland’s spot in France that summer.
