Steven Gerrard has said that he is “disappointed” by “integrity” comments ahead of their huge game against Manchester City this weekend.
If Liverpool are to win the league, Gerrard’s Aston Villa team will need to take points off Pep Guardiola’s City team at the Etihad Stadium.
Many have said that Gerrard’s team will be more up for it than usual because of his ties to Liverpool, though he does not appreciate these sorts of comments.

He said: “We’ve got three massive points to play for. We’ve got the opportunity to finish on a high at the end of the season. It would be nice to reward our supporters with something at the weekend.
“In terms of Liverpool, I totally understand and respect the external noise and questions that have been coming my way for some time.
“They’re involved in a title race and I spent a lot of time there. But it’s disappointing when people mention integrity aimed at me or Villa or any of my players. We’ll go out at the weekend and we’ll give it everything we’ve got to try and get points for Aston Villa and our supporters.
“If that inevitably helps Liverpool then fantastic. But my priority is to try and get points for Aston Villa.”

Gerrard’s team have very little to play for on the final day of the season, and the club will also have a financial boost if Sunday goes their way.
If they win the game and finish higher in the league, they will receive an increased payout based on their position in the table.
However, if Jack Grealish wins the league at City, Villa will get £15 million as part of the deal made for the player during the summer.
