“Relax yourself…”

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has talked about one Manchester United player who “freaked him out” when they used to play against each other.

Onuoha appeared on the Guardian Football Weekly on Monday, where the panel were discussing all of the goings on from the world of Premier League football.

The former Man City defender was discussing the scuffle at the end of the Chelsea vs Leeds United game last weekend, and he was asked about fights he got into on the pitch.

He said that people wouldn’t approach him aggressively all that often, but that one player who did in a “really weird” way was Phil Neville.

He said: “A lot of people wouldn’t have come to me with that level of aggression. But interestingly, the person that did and I knew it was all for show was Phil Neville. ‘Come on then, come on then’, he was doing all these crazy faces.

“I was thinking ‘What are you doing?’ That was the definition of a guy who was 10 men on the field. Come on, it’s Phil Neville! Relax yourself.

“I was kind of thrown off by it, I thought it was really weird.”

Onuoha clearly didn’t have all that much time for Neville on the pitch, who is currently the manager of Inter Miami in America.

Neville, who previously managed the England women’s national team, is going through a difficult period as Inter’s manager.

Just last month, Neville has called his son up to the Inter Miami first team, as 10 players were released by the American club.

The players were released as Neville’s team failed to reach the play-offs, while a number of high profile names will stay with the club.

Onuoha on the other hand is largely working in the media, having retired from football back in 2020.
