Newcastle’s latest transfer link could be great news for Nathan Collins

This could be a great move, even if the man in question stays where he is.

Newcastle United are being heavily linked with two central defenders for the January transfer window – Ben Mee and James Tarkowski.

The Burnley duo have proved to be a really tough partnership, forming a brick wall in the defence, though on their own they look impressive as well.

And while Burnley will do all they can to avoid losing either of their defenders, they know they have a ready made replacement waiting in the wings if they do sell.

Nathan Collins has been given a chance to impress since he signed during the summer, and has looked confident and assured every time Sean Dyche has called upon him.

Collins enjoyed an excellent October with Burnley earlier this season, to the point that a lot of the club’s fans wanted him to remain in the team even when everyone is fit.

Newcastle, who allegedly are extremely keen to bring either Mee or Tarkowski in to help with their relegation battle, have the money to lure the Englishmen away.

This would lead to Collins walking into the Burnley Starting XI, hopefully not to be displaced.

It would lead to Collins being a crucial part of a relegation battle of his own, but with Dyche at the helm, you’d fancy their chances of survival.

Nathan Collins.

While he has looked seriously impressive when he has been given the chance to start in the Premier League this season, he still has a way to go before breaking into Stephen Kenny’s strongest XI.

Despite playing at a higher level than John Egan, he would be doing very well to displace him, while Shane Duffy is Ireland’s most important player.

This leaves Collins fighting with Dara O’Shea, Andrew Omobamidele and potentially Seamus Coleman for that third centre-back position.

While he has some stiff competition there, playing regular Premier League football for the second half of the season with Burnley would go a long way to helping his chances.
