Ralf Rangnick’s changes vs Brentford get more confusing by the minute

Some bold calls…

Manchester United played their final home game of the season against Brentford on Monday night, running out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford.

It was a surprisingly good performance by United, who looked in control from the first minute until the last.

Such was the one-sided nature of the game, Ralf Rangnick was afforded the opportunity to make whatever changes he wanted to, and to give anyone on the bench a run in the team.

Rangnick decided to bring on Phil Jones and Edinson Cavani, both of whom look set to leave the club in the summer, and Fred.

Cavani is out of contract, and will go elsewhere, while Jones is likely to do the same after a bizarre career at United.

There doesn’t seem to be an understandable reason as to why those two men were given the opportunity to say goodbye to Old Trafford, while Jesse Lingard was not.

Lingard has undeniably done more for the club than both of them, and has been at the club for over 20 years.

While his time in Manchester was patchy, he was a fan favourite at times, and deserved a chance to say goodbye to the home fans, a lot more than Cavani and Jones anyway.

Perhaps he and Rangnick clashed in the past. Based on he and his family’s response to the snub, it might make a bit of sense.

But even if that is the case, were Cavani and Jones really the most deserving of those valuable minutes?

Could Marcus Rashford not have been given a chance to get on the scoresheet given how much he clearly needs a confidence boost? Alejandro Garnacho has been tearing it up for the youth team, he would have certainly appreciated 15 minutes in a Premier League game.

Rangnick has got a lot of decisions right since coming to Manchester, but this is an instance where he didn’t exactly things through. Lingard and his fans are still unhappy, as shown by his most recent social media post. More on that here.
