Juan Mata explains how Man United can solve their biggest problem

Juan Mata has not been a regular at Manchester United for the past few years, though when he has been called upon, he has never disappointed.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard, his legs are not what they once were, and as a result there has not been a place for him in the United team.

However, he recently started in the 3-0 win over Brentford where he was one of the star performers, and he is believed to be a calming influence on the dressing room.

In a recent interview, Mata spoke extremely honestly about what the club needs to do to improve, implying that there are people on the business side of things who are not at the top level.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “I am not in the position of picking managers. What I do know is that being at Manchester United, this club needs first-class individuals for each department.

“That is how I understand Manchester United. This club should be top of the class in every department, on pitch or off. That is the only way I see this club competing for the biggest trophies.

“That’s what I hope for in the near future, otherwise you cannot compete with clubs who are doing very good things with a certain identity and professionalism in the way they make decisions.

“They are getting the results they deserve because of doing the right things. When you think about Manchester United you think about the best level possible, as far as I understood football growing up. I don’t understand this club without having first-class individuals for each department.”

United fans everywhere will surely agree with Mata’s comments, and that the club need to hire more intelligently going forward.

Gary Neville has been on record as saying that United need “the best in class” in every department, from the boardroom to the players themselves.
